The University of Memphis is a Tennessee public university founded in 1912, with Dr. Seymour A. Mynders as president.[2] It was ranked a fourth tier school in US News's "National Universities: Tier 4" list.[3] The school is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.[4]

The football program has won 3 bowl games (while losing 1).[5]

It is better known for its basketball teams which have had success in the NCAA tournament (though during both of its major runs, their wins were later vacated by the NCAA for rules violations).
