The Earth is nothing more then a blue dot, a speck really, orbiting an unremarkable star in an average galaxy, itself a speck moving silently in the vastness of the universe. Only our own arrogance and pride demands that we are somehow special in relation to the rest of the cosmos.

I suppose in many ways I could be labeled as a conservative, although I avoid labeling myself in such a manner. I am financially and economically conservative in the sense I believe strongly in capitalism, the free market, and very small, unobtrusive government. However I am not what some people label a "social conservative" or a "religious conservative". On social issues I tend to lean center-left, as I believe strongly in individual liberty and I am extremely anti-authoritarian, including religious authoritarianism. The user box explains most of the rest about me. I will emphasize my absolute support for the first amendment of free speech, assembly, press, and religion (including no religion). Also a big supporter of keeping religion and government separate.

Conservative Bible Project

This has been become an Internet sensation as of late, so much so that major media outlets such as US News and the New York Daily News are starting to take notice. I cannot speak for anyone else here but I am an opponent of this project. I believe that the Conservative Bible Project is motivated purely by politics and ideology and an attempt to take what is seen by millions as nothing less than sacred holy writ, and force it to conform to a subset of American social conservatism. Much of the wording will use "conservative terms", deemed as such simply based on personal opinion. This is an act of supreme hubris and egotism. None of those who are in charge are qualified theologians or Biblical scholars. As far as I am aware, they have no expert knowledge in Hebrew or New Testament era Greek. Not that it matters, the original writings are not being used as a base, but instead it will be the KJV, making this project a translation of a translation.

Humbling thought

We are clever apes that manage, despite all our problems, to become the dominate life after 4.5 billion years on this planet, the Earth. However our world is nothing more then a blue dot, a speck really, orbiting an unremarkable star, one of billions in an average galaxy, itself a speck among billions moving silently in the vastness of the universe. Only our own arrogance and pride demands that we are somehow special in relation to the rest of the cosmos.
We are related to each other and all life biologically, to the rest of the Earth chemically, and to the universe, atomically.
