Boudicca

Boudicca or Boadicea was a queen of the Iceni tribe in Celtic Britain, in the area now known as East Anglia. Following the death of her husband Prasutagus, the Iceni ruler, Boudicca was flogged by the new Roman overlords and her daughters were raped. Bioudicca launched upon a war of revenge,slaughtering four Roman legions and razing (burning) the Roman cities of Colchester (Camolodunum), St Albans (Verulamium) and Londinium. She killed every Roman citizen she found in the city and threw their heads into The Thames. One of the skulls can be seen on display in the Museum of London. She is usually depicted riding a chariot with scythes attached to its wheels. Tacitus describes her sympathetically.
