Stepan Bandera (January 1, 1909 - October 15, 1959) was a Ukrainian nationalist. He found a rebel army, called Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, that fought the Red Army. He fought sometimes alongside and sometimes against the Germans during the Second World War. After Bandera wanted to create a independet Ukrainian state, he was sent to a concentration camp in 1941. Banderas army persecuted Jews and Poles. He was killed by a KGB-agent in 1959.[1] He was buried in Munich, Germany.

Stepan Bandera was honored by the Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko as "Hero of the Ukraine" in 2010.[2] The next president Viktor Yanukovych withdrawed the honor.
