Microsoft is an American corporation funded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975 and headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA. Its current CEO is Steve Ballmer. Microsoft focuses on developing and manufacturing software, hardwares and other technology oriented products and services. In 2000 a liberal activist judge decided that Microsoft had grown into a monopoly and ordered that the company be split into two units. The threat of the breakup of the world's largest software company led directly to the fall of the NASDAQ and ended the dot-com boom. The recession triggered by Clinton's Department of Justice was later exacerbated by the 9/11 attacks. In 2001, a federal appeals court overturned the lower court's ruling.
