The nine diagnostic signs of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), include a grandiose sense of self-importance, a constant need for admiration, and a lack of empathy.

8. Lack of empathy: Being unwilling or unable to recognize, acknowledge, or identify with the feelings and needs of other people.
