The Detroit Lions are a National Football League franchise team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are part of the National Football Conference (NFC) and play in the NFC North Division. In 2008, the team became the first ever to go 0–16, however, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the first to not win a game in a season, going 0–14 in their inaugural 1976 season (the NFL went to a 16-game season in 1978).

The Detroit Lions have won four NFL championships, all prior to the advent of the Super Bowl; they are one of four franchises never to have appeared in the Super Bowl (and one of two – along with the Cleveland Browns – to have been in existence prior to the Super Bowl).
