The Washington Redskins are a National Football League franchise based in Washington D.C.. They are part of the National Football Conference (NFC) and play in the NFC East Division.

The team started in 1932 as the Boston Braves, changed to the Redskins the following year, then relocated to DC in 1937.

Liberals routinely call for the team to change its name due to their view that it is an ethnic slur, so much so that a Federal agency voted to cancel six trademarks owned by the franchise (a decision later rendered moot by a Supreme Court ruling in a similar case involving an Asian-American rock band called "The Slants" -- another ethnic slur -- which was ruled to be private speech and thus protected by the First Amendment).
