George Riebel Blue, Sr. (December 10, 1916 – December 1986), was a New Orleans attorney who served from 1964 to 1972 as a Democrat state representative for suburban Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
Earlier, in 1956, Blue was the Republican nominee for the United States House of Representatives for the Orleans Parish-based Louisia's 2nd congressional district. Blue failed in his GOP challenge to Democratic U.S. Representative Hale Boggs, who defeated Blue, 69,715 votes (64.5 percent) to 38,344 (35.5 percent).[1] As a Republican candidate, Blue fared better against Boggs than had the party's 1960 choice, Elliot Ross Buckley, a cousin of magazine publisher William F. Buckley, Jr., who had received only 22 percent of the vote.[2]
Blue was then twice elected to an at-large seat in the Louisiana House for Jefferson Parish in 1964 and 1968. His legislative tenure hence paralleled the gubernatorial administration of Democrat John J. McKeithen.[3]
Blue was born in Houston, Texas. His son, George R. "Buddy" Blue, Jr. (1949-2016), a Republican, practiced law in New Orleans Metarie in Jefferson Parish, and Covington in St. Tammany Parish. He specialized in personal injury and wrongful termination.[4]
