Zadok (meaning "righteous") was the High Priest of Israel during the time of David and Solomon's respecive reigns. He shared duties with Abiathar, but after Abiathar sided with Adonijah at his rebellion, Abiathar was "thrust out from being High Priest", and Zadok was alone in his duties. When he died, he was succeeded by his son Azariah I.

Other Zadoks

The Bible lists three other Zadoks, listed here:

  • The father of Jerusha, who was wife of King Uzziah, and mother of King Jotham
  • "The scribe" set over the treasuries of the temple by Nehemiah along with a priest and a Levite
  • The sons of Baana, one of those who assisted in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem
