Joe Lauria is the Editor-in-Chief of Consortium News, a long-running independent investigative journalism outlet focused on foreign policy, U.S. politics, press freedom, and continuing the outlet's long running tradition of challenging official narratives.

Lauria is a former United Nations correspondent for The Wall Street Journal (2008–2015). He has reported on international affairs for the Boston Globe and The Sunday Times of London. His focus areas are U.S. foreign policy, Middle East conflicts, Russia-Ukraine, Julian Assange, and issues of censorship. He has reported on U.N. Security Council debates, covered free speech issues, including social media crackdowns and has written extensively on Russia-Ukraine relations, often highlighting diplomatic angles ignored by the mainstream media.

Consortium News was founded in 1995 by investigative journalist Robert Parry. Its mission is to provide independent analysis and reporting on U.S. and international politics, often challenging mainstream narratives. It covers U.S. wars and interventions abroad. Also government surveillance, censorship, legal battles surrounding whistleblowers and journalists (e.g., Julian Assange), and critical perspectives on U.S. foreign policy in Ukraine, Gaza, and the Middle East.
