Matt Mowers is a former Trump Administration official for the State Department and former aide to Chris Christie[1] currently running for United States House of Representatives in New Hampshire's 1st district to unseat Democrat Chris Pappas. He also served as an advisor for the Senate campaign of Donald Bolduc,[2] who ultimately lost to Corky Messner in the Republican primary in his efforts to unseat Jeanne Shaheen.

Mowers has correctly[3] noted Rep. Pappas to be a "puppet" for Nancy Pelosi.[4]

2020 U.S. House run

It was reported in December 2019 that Mowers was being encouraged to run against Chris Pappas in the 2020 U.S. House elections,[5] and he ultimately declared in January 2020 that he would run for the House seat.[6] Mowers received the endorsement of President Trump in late June 2020 for his bid.[7] He proceeded to win the Republican primary,[8] and will face Pappas in the general election.

The DCCC has attacked Mowers, accusing him of "hyper-partisanship".[9]

At a debate between the two candidates, Mowers correctly[10] mentioned[11] Pappas' undisclosed relationship with a lobbyist, to which the liberal representative denied. LGBT groups later claimed that the charge was a "homophobic dog whistle".[12] Following such, a poll found Mowers leading in the race by two points.[13] While Cook Political Report insists that the race is "Likely Democrat",[14] it's important to note that the district was carried by Donald Trump by two percentage points in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.[15]
