'''Braveheart''' is a motion picture released in 1995 and directed by [[Mel Gibson]]. It ostensibly depicts the career of the medieval Scottish warlord [[William Wallace]] in his fight for Scottish independence against the [[Plantaganet]] [[Norman]] kings of [[England]], but has been criticised for historical inaccuracy. Nevertheless, its release in the [[United Kingdom]] coincided with a surge in support for the [[Scottish National Party]] (SNP).
