No longer opposed to abortion?

According to this, "the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, which is the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention just came out stating that Christians should not preach against abortion from the pulpit, on the street corner, or in bumper stickers or social media posts." That's concering! I suppose that the Southern Baptist denomination does tend to be a bit more liberal, but still... --DavidB4 (TALK) 23:00, 23 November 2019 (EST)

I've never been a fan of the Southern Baptist Convention, largely based on their anti-Mexican, anti-Catholic xenophobia and racism. I suppose they will justify this stance based on the judge not, lest ye be judged standard to keep membership and revenues flowing in. And a pro-abortion (or let's call it, "more tolerant") stance would be in keeping with a negative stereotype that Catholics and Mexicans "reproduce like rabbits". So it's not really surprising. I suppose that could be. I've never been a fan of them either, but mostly because they seem to lack spiritual depth. They follow the philosophies of "What makes me feel good must make God feel good," and "Bring the world into the church, rather than the church into the world." Sometimes they also seem to push the "heath, wealth, and prosperity gospel." They are theologically liberal, so being politically liberal makes sense. --DavidB4 (TALK) 13:26, 24 November 2019 (EST)
I don't really know anything about it as an organized church, my experience is in dealing with them one-on-one. While I have many good friends who are died in the wool Southern Baptists and who I respect and love as Christian brothers, there is a hard edge among some (especially the more secular) I interpret as as anti-Catholic and anti-Mexican. What's odd is, that same edge doesn't appear between black and white Southern Baptists, and the blacks don't seem to carry it toward outsiders. RobSDe Plorabus Unum 13:49, 24 November 2019 (EST)
