Liberal denial

Liberal denial is the tendency of liberals to conceal or deny that they are liberals, and even to object when identified as a liberal by someone else.

Hillary Clinton, for example, refused to admit in a presidential debate in 2007 that she is a liberal. Michael Dukakis refused for a while to admit that he was a liberal during the 1988 presidential campaign, until finally he declared himself to be a liberal in the sense that President Harry Truman, who served 40 years earlier, was a liberal.

There are also specific examples of liberals denying, for ideological reasons, facts that are plainly true:

1. that successful democracy, both historically and logically, is the result of Christianity
2. that Lawrence Summers was fired as President of Harvard for making a politically incorrect suggestion about women and math aptitude
3. that Ronald Reagan's public exhortation, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" caused the nearly 30-year-old wall to be torn down later
4. that gun control may increase crime
5. that God created the Earth and everything in it in six days.
6. that group prayer is censored from public school
