Palustrine Wetlands are wetlands occurring in the Palustrine System, one of five systems in the classification of wetlands and deepwater habitats [1]. Palustrine wetlands include all nontidal wetlands dominated by trees, shrubs, persistent emergent plants, or emergent mosses or lichens, as well as small, shallow open water ponds or potholes. Palustrine wetlands are often called swamps, marshes, potholes, bogs, or fens.
