Lawrence Joseph “Larry” Hogan, Jr. (born May 25, 1956 (age 69)) was the 62nd governor of the State of Maryland, serving from January 2015 to 2023. Hogan won his first term as Maryland governor in an upset in the solid-Democrat state, and he had relatively high approval ratings.[6][7]
In March 2017, Hogan criticized "sanctuary cities" and stated he would take steps to fight them.[8] In May 2017, Hogan vetoed a bill that would have required employers to give paid sick leave for employees, a massive and destructive expansion of government power and regulations.[9]
However, Hogan signed gun control legislation into law, causing him to lose the support of the National Rifle Association, one of the most moderate pro-Second Amendment organizations.[10]
Hogan has taken liberal positions on issues such as gun control, energy, international organizations, and abortion.[11]
