Kathryn "Kay" Bailey Hutchison (born July 22, 1943) is a Republican former U.S. Senator from her native Texas. The first female senator from Texas, she held office from 1993 through 2012. Hutchison was a candidate for the 2010 Texas gubernatorial election, when she unsuccessfully challenged the incumbent more conservative Governor Rick Perry in the primary election. She did not run for re-election to the Senate in 2012.
Kay Bailey Hutchison is pro-abortion and has voted to express that Roe v. Wade was rightly decided and should not be overturned by the United States Supreme Court.[1] Additionally, Senator Hutchison is a strong and active proponent of stem cell research that involves the killing of human embryos.[2] However, Hutchison has voted for restrictions on abortion such as supporting the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.
