Looney Tunes is a famous American series of theatrical animated shorts, created in 1930 by Warner Bros. Its sister series, also created by Warner Bros., was called Merrie Melodies. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies were animated at the Warner Bros. Cartoons studio, affectionately nicknamed "Termite Terrace." The series has its own opening theme, "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down".
Looney Tunes were created to have a star cartoon character and a rendition of a popular Tin Pan Alley song of the day. Merrie Melodies, on the other hand, were originally created to have one-shot characters and a popular song from whatever Warner Bros. movie was playing at the time the shorts were released. By the mid-1940s, however, there were no differences between the two series, apart from the opening music and series title.
