Antonio López de Santa Anna. Born 1794 Jalapa, Mexico - Died 1876, Mexico City. President-General of Mexico during the Texas War of Independence and Mexican-American War. He was the most conspicuous and continuously active of the military adventurers who filled Mexico with uncertainty during the first two generations of its independence. Some of his contemporaries considered him a hero. He died in obscurity.
