Timothy Eugene "Tim" Scott (born September 19, 1965) is an establishment U.S. Senator from South Carolina. Despite being a Republican, Scott has sometimes sided with liberals and obstructed conservative priorities.
He is formerly a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina's 1st congressional district. Earlier Tim Scott was in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
Mostly a conservative who touts traditional values,[1] Scott made history in being the second black Republican to be popularly elected to the United States Senate after Edward Brooke.
Positions
Support for identity politics and caving to the Left
However, Scott has caved to the Left several times. In July 2018, Scott forced a highly qualified originalist judicial nominee to withdraw because he had written politically incorrect comments decades ago – such as criticizing identity politics – even though those writings were well-known and not problematic.[2] In November 2018, he announced he would oppose another originalist judge who had the highest-ranking qualification from the American Bar Association and was even endorsed by some Obama Administration officials simply because of frivolous racial allegations from the Left.[3] The allegations against the second judge had no merit,[4] and Scott himself admitted that before suddenly changing his mind.[5]
As a Senator, Scott has helped promote the falsehood that the GOP is "racist" by voting against these nominees, and he has falsely smeared their reputations.[6]
Conservative positions
A fiscal and social conservative, Scott touted the endorsement of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and defeated the son of Strom Thurmond for the House seat. Scott is the first black Republican elected to Congress from the Deep South since Reconstruction.
