Sedition (18 U.S. Code § 2384) is defined by Merriam-Webster as "incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority". It is synonymous with subversion and rebellion. Historically, it has been a serious charge in countries which are non-democratic or which are ruled by a monarch.
