Alexander Zakharchenko

Alexander Zakharchenko (June 26, 1976 – August 31, 2018) was the minister-president of the Donetsk People's Republic from November 2, 2014 until his assassination by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on August 31, 2018.

Biography

Zakharchenko was born in Donetsk in 1976. After graduating from technical school he worked as a mine electrician. Later he was a student at the law institute of Ukraine's interior ministry.[1] Since April 2014 Zakharchenko was engaged in the Donetsk People's Republic. On August 7, 2014, he became minister-president of the Republic of Donetsk after Alexander Borodai resigned.[2] Zakharchenko was endorsed by the Communist Party of the Donetsk People's Republic.[3] On August 31, 2018 Zakharchenko was killed by a bomb which was planted in a café that he visited.[4]
