Preston was born to James and Betty Jo Preston in Effingham in south central Illinois. His father became a pastor in Cortez, a small municipality in Montezuma County in northern Colorado, when Dan was in the fifth grade. Preston converted to Jesus Christ in 1983 at the age of eight. He surrendered to the ministry at the age of eleven while he was attending summer camp at Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in Sedalia in Douglas County, Colorado, located north of Colorado Springs. He graduated from high school in Cortez and attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, at which he completed undergraduate studies.[2]
While At BBC, he met and married in 1995 his wife, the former Lisa Lynn Webster.[3] The couple has four children, Karisa, Kaylee, Keith, and Gabe. Pastor Preston later received a diploma from Heartland Baptist Bible College, an Independent Baptist entity in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to his current position in Lubbock, he served for eight years on the staff at Liberty Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas. In December 2006, Preston answered a call to pastor a church in Windsor in southwestern Colorado, a post that he filled for nine years.[2]
Preston's inspiring and well-prepared sermons, three per week, may be accessed on the church Facebook page. Also available on-line is the Sunday morning adult Bible class study led by Mike Gilbert.
