The atheist David Smalley said about the atheist movement: "We're eating our own... We’re disintegrating."[1] See also: Atheism and cannibalism

The Elevatorgate controversy which involved Richard Dawkins and the atheist feminist Rebecca Watson generated bad press and public relations problems for Dawkins. See: Richard Dawkins' loss of influence

Quote from the movie The Wizard of New Atheism: "Look what you've done, Rebecca!! I'm melting, melting. Ohhhhh, what a world, what a world. Who would have thought that a woman like you could destroy my beautiful, godless wickedness. OHHHHHHH!!! NO!!! I'm going... ohhhhhhh... ohhhhhhhhhhhhh....".
Very loose paraphrase of Rebecca Watson post Elevatorgate:

"Richard Dawkins will no longer be rewarded with my money, my praise, or my attention. I will no longer recommend his books to others, buy them as presents, or buy them for my own library. I will not attend his lectures or recommend that others do the same. There are so many great scientists and thinkers out there that I don't think my reading list will suffer.

Let the name of Richard Dawkins be stricken from every book and tablet, stricken from all pylons and obelisks, stricken from every atheist monument. Let the name of Richard Dawkins be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of men for all time." See also: Feminist quotes about Richard Dawkins
"I look forward to watching your legacy crash and burn.. You don't get a second chance." - Mindy at Skepchick post Elevatorgate[2][3]

Satirical explanation of the picture above: Paralyzed with fear due to the mob of angry, atheist feminist behind him, a fireman watches Richard Dawkins' legacy burn.

The gale force wind that hit the tree of atheism

If atheist men had treated atheist women better, perhaps the atheist movement wouldn't have been hit by the gale force winds of bitter femninists. See: Atheism and women and Atheist feminism
Research suggests that irreligiousity is a causal factor for domestic violence.[4] See: Irreligion and domestic violence

Richard Dawkins is still widely criticized for igniting deep fractures in the atheist movement through his Elevatorgate controversy. For example, on November 26, 2013, the atheist activist and blogger Jen McCreight posted at Twitter the message: "Did anyone on Dawkins AMA ask how he feels about singlehandedly destroying the atheist movement with the Dear Muslima yet?"[5] In December 2013, atheist Jack Vance at Atheist Revolution called July 2, 2011, which is the day that Elevatorgate occurred, "The day the atheist movement died."[6]

Atheist feminism and its view of religion

When told that Red Army soldiers sexually assaulted German refugees, the atheist Joseph Stalin declared: "We lecture our soldiers too much; let them have their initiative."[7] See: Mass rape of German women by the Soviet army

It is extremely common for atheist feminists to see religion as the main source of sexism and oppression in the world despite: the widespread sexism within the atheist population/atheist movement; irreligious men engaging in more domestic abuse than religious men (See: Irreligion and domestic violence); the most secular countries of Europe have significant domestic violence problems (see: Secular Europe and domestic violence); and atheistic communists regimes have been the most murderous and repressive regimes in world history (see: Atheism and communism and Atheism and mass murder and Atheism and forced labor and Communism and religious persecution and Mass rape of German women by the Soviet army).

Many atheists have a poor knowledge of atheist history and/or engage in historical revisionism (see: Atheism and historical illiteracy and Atheism and historical revisionism).
