Thomas Stanley Matthews (July 21, 1824 – March 22, 1889) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He wrote the majority opinion in Yick Wo v. Hopkins - which established that de facto discriminatory application of a neutral law violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.[1]
