Keynesian liberals like User:Conservative maintain that the debate has ended (look at his sourcing and the structure of the article), that there is no debate, and a society at war can have both guns AND butter as the United States did in the 1960s, with Congress funding the Vietnam war, the War on Poverty, and the Space Race to land a man on the Moon simultaneously without raising taxes or imposing rationing and restrictions on the private sector. The results, needless to say, were disastrous, with inflation and an ever-expanding national debt, (not to mention the loss of two wars, to communist Vietnam and also to Poverty).

Actually, the US had guns AND butter during the Vietnam war in the 1960s, unlike the consumer rationing during two world wars. The guns and butter curve is bullcrap. The debate is over using the butter for arms production instead of civilian consumption, NOT "producing less butter" as his source claims. wooow -- this article had even more subtle commie agitprop that one didn't catch on first reading. User:Conservative described the concept as a choice a command and control (communist) government had to make between military and "social spending". It's not. It's a choice between military spending and limiting private sector consumer choices. Big difference between government dictates {socialism} and a free market. [2]

Guns or butter originally was a choice, one or the other, under the gold standard. Guns and butter is a claim by liberals that you can have both at the same time, and that there is no longer a debate over guns or butter under Keynesianism with uncontrolled deficit spending. User:Conservative created this page as Guns and butter, thinking in his liberal style, that it was criticism that Putin couldn't have both. In reality, guns AND butter is a justification of uncontrolled defense spending and an explosion of the national debt. Once again, the actual facts are the exact opposite of what User:Conservative imagines make him look intelligent or informed. It's typical of User:Conservative's trolling and lack of interest or understanding in geopolitics and economics.

If it were even possible for User:Conservative to have an intelligent debate, simple analysis could have exposed the facts to him years ago. In 1991, Russia abandoned Marxism and adopted the model of Keynesian capitalism of the United States. Today the US has a 120% debt-to-GDP ratio after 80 years of guns and butter during the Cold War and after. The Russian Federation today has a 20% debt-to-GDP ratio based on the same US model, with plenty of room to grow its national debt in coming decades. (Meanwhile, the US can't find buyers anymore to finance its deficit spending from among the traditional buyers - China, Japan, and the Gulf States).
What Ken did in his effort to "prove" he has a high IQ was Google up some liberal claptrap about Putin that mentioned the phrase, "guns and butter", that neither Ken nor the source understood the meaning.

The Newsweek report was built around a single instance of 2 shoplifters who were apprehended, armed with knives. The information was first posted to X by Anton Gerashchenko, the notorious neo-nazi webmaster who maintains Myrotvorets, better known as the Ukrainian kill list. Sen Rand Paul & DNI Tulsi Gabbard are included in the list.
