Talk:Timothy Snyder
Qualifying sources
Now User:Conservative is spamming a guy who openly compares Trump to Hitler as one of his "qualified experts". "I stand by my quote above" Timothy Snyder: Trump's Hitlerian Month. GIGO. RobSZelensky Must Go! 16:24, August 13, 2025 (EDT)
| “ | This year we have seen that explicit Nazi ideas are tolerated in the Trump milieu....Trump and Vance are running a fascist campaign....Now, the Hitlerian things that Trump says would be Hitlerian with or without this Hitlerian context of the last four years, the last year, or the last month. And this context would be Hitlerian with or without Trump's recent Hitlerian utterances. | ” |

| “ | Timothy Snyder is one of the most influential and prominent public intellectuals today. Among historians, he is very successful, sold many many books and he has incredibly successful substack, writing about not so much history as current day politics with a bit of a historical angle. And his success comes from many strengths, his scholarship, his prose, and some of his big ideas about European history. But his role as a public intellectual, commenting on controversial public events, including Democracy in America and the war in Ukraine has, I think compromised the quality of his history.
His big ideas might have become big lies around 2016. He stopped really being a historian and became a pundit, even a prophet, warning about rising authoritarianism and tyranny, especially in the form of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin... |

Timothy Snyder - What happens when historians tell big lies, especially in a war? Tragedy follows. YouTube
| “ | A process some psychologists call Fusion appeared to occur in Snyder's mind. Trump really was Hitler. Putin really was Stalin. And all his life Snyder had taught himself, had schooled himself to believe that Hitler and Stalin were equal evils, Ukraine was really a democracy and Snyder really was like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, opposing evil... | ” |
| “ | "Do not obey in advance' began the book, and became a rallying cry to defy Trump. Snyder became a key enabler of the Russiagate hoax...
"Stand out. Believe in truth. Listen for dangerous words". Rarely has deep reflection, deep scholarship and knowledge of the horrors of the 20th century produced such banality of virtue. Snyder even did not take his own advice. His explication of his Ohio preacher boy homily to listen for "dangerous words" was "be alert to the use of the words, extremism and terrorism. Be alive to fatal notions of emergency and exception. Be angry about the treacherous use of the patriotic vocabulary". Yet since 2022 such dangerous words like "Slava Ukraine", declaimed by the patriotic killers, terrorists of the 1930s like Stepan Bandera have driven Snyder to urge Ukrainians into a new Bloodlands to sacrifice themselves in hundreds of thousands... |

User:Conservative: Here's more of your "scholarly" source"
- The man does not bother to qualify the sources he links to, and only uses them in his confirmation bias to spam ad hominem attacks against his personal "enemies". Conservapedia needs a written, enforceable policy against such disruptive editing and malicious conduct. RobSAbnormal is fine. Stupid isn't. 20:33, February 26, 2026 (EST)
- User:Conservative told me on the phone in a 20 minute monologue where he insisted I remain quiet, that he believed the job of an historian was to predict the future. Well, here's one of User:Conservative's favorite liberal historians not only NOT reporting facts of the past or prognosticating on the future, but reporting on an imaginary conversation trashing Donald Trump. The man has no ability to discern propaganda or propagandists, even when the facts are before his face. RobSAbnormal is fine. Stupid isn't. 20:44, February 26, 2026 (EST)
Comment on Bloodlands
Snyder begins with an interesting premise, but goes off the rails.
Ever hear of World War II? It wasn't fought in France or over Great Britain or the Atlantic Ocean. Those were rear guard actions by the Third Reich. It was fought in Ukraine, or the "Bloodlands". The NATO war against Russia is unfinished business from World War II which the Soviets never were able to clean up. RobSAbnormal is fine. Stupid isn't. 10:57, January 23, 2026 (EST)
