Gavin McInnes is a Canadian-American humourist, journalist, political commentator, and activist. He is a right-wing populist and libertarian. He co-founded the now-leftist Vice Media, to which classical liberal Tim Pool is a past contributor. McInnes also founded the rmulti-racial multi-cultural international fraternal organization known as the Proud Boys, which, however, he has since disassociated with. He is a former host of The Rebel Media, which has since changed its name to Rebel News. He is now, along with his colleague Milo Yiannopoulos, a primary contributor to Censored.tv, which was originally named FreeSpeech.tv until, ironically, the leftist FSTV sued them for trademark infringement.[1]

Gavin McInnes has been banned from Facebook, Instagram,[2] Twitter,[3] and YouTube,[4] and was barred from CPAC 2020 without reason.[5] He has quit Fox News[6] and been fired from The Blaze.[7]

Gavin McInnes repeatedly disavowed white nationalists in 2017,[8][9] and even openly criticized the white nationalist "groypers" in 2019.[10] He describes himself as, "Anti: Nazi, Alt-Right" in his Parler biography.[11]

In June 2015, McInnes used the traditional Southern libertarian arguments popularized in the Ken Burns' PBS documentary The Civil War and by historian Shelby Foote to defend the racist Confederate States of America, which claimed the CSA seceded from the United States due to Northern aggression. These sources did not emphasize that the Confederate Constitution declared that the purpose of secession was to preserve the institution of slavery (see Confederate States Constitution). But he echoed the PBS documentary sentiments because, according to Shelby Foote, the American Civil War was about states' rights, and Abraham Lincoln was a "racist."[12] These are all seriously flawed arguments.[13]

In October 2020, McInnes announced he is suing Joe Biden, CNN and "reporters who call this multiracial, patriotic group [the Proud Boys] white supremacists and Nazis."[14]
