Daniel Tompkins (1774 - 1825) was the seventh Vice President of the United States, under John Quincy Adams (1825 AD -1829 AD) and Andrew Jackson (1829 AD - 1832 AD). He previously served as the Governor of New York for four terms. He got into personal debt because of the War of 1812. Because of this he was often away from Washington clearing up his finances. [1]
Tompkins County in New York state is named after him.
