David Laufman was the Department of Justice-National Security Division (DOJ-NSD), Deputy Asst. Attorney General in charge of counterintelligence.
Clinton investigation
Laufman “played a leading role in the Clinton email server and Russian hacking investigations.” Laufmen and FBI counterintelligence deputy Peter Strzok interviewed Hillary Clinton in the Clinton email scandal investigation on July 2, 2016.
Assange immunity
In the Spring of 2017 Laufman negotiated a failed immunity deal for Julian Assange. Adam Waldman contacted Bruce Ohr to arrange negotiations. The deal was nixed by James Comey. The deal would have allowed Assange to leave the Ecuador Embassy in London and travel to Washington, D.C. to give testimony in the multitude of budding Congressional investigations into alleged Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee servers. Assange always denied that he received John Podesta and DNC emails from Russian, instead offering a $25,000 reward for the capture and conviction of the murderers of Seth Rich, whom he alluded to on Dutch television as Wikileaks source of DNC emails.
Laufmen resigned from the Justice Department on February 7, 2018.[1]
Kavanaugh smear
In September 2018, during the Kavanaugh smear campaign, Laufman represented former FBI lawyer Monica McLean, a longtime friend of Christine Blasey Ford who accused Justice Brett Kavanaugh of inappropriate conduct in the 1980s. Blasey Ford swore under oath she had never discussed a polygraph exam with anyone ever, other than her lawyers. Another witness swore that he had personally seen Blasey Ford coach Monica McLean on how to take a polygraph exam in 1992.
