My time at Wikipedia
Back in 2012, I was a senior editor on Wikipedia and could boast tens of thousands of edits as well as a clean eight-year track record. I spent much of my time in a forum callled "requested moves." There I promoted the use of conventional English in titles, and opposed unnecessary reliance on foriegn languages. I was banned following a discussion that I assume was rigged somehow. This discussion was full of people I'd never heard of up to that point, so someone must have canvassed them together. Although few coherent arguments and no diffs were presented, everyone voted to ban me, often with a gusto that you rarely find in discussions of this kind. If anyone ever gets to the bottom of Wikipedia corruption, I have little doubt that they will find that the French embassy has been distributing payola. Although very little of my editing related to France, this was clearly the issue that triggered the attention of senior editors. Perhaps my biggest sin was to lead a successful effort to move an African country from it's French name (Côte d'Ivoire) to it's English name (Ivory Coast). This was in June 2012, a few weeks before the offensive against me was launched. Oddly enough, Ivory Coast is still at Ivory Coast all this time later. They can accept my arguments concerning titles and my article writing. But they can't put up with the presence of a dissident who may expose their misdeeds.
