Karma

Karma in Sanskrit literally means 'action'.
In Buddhism, karma refers to the process of cause and effect whereby positive actions result in happiness and negative, harmful actions (sin) lead to suffering. Personal responsibility is the primary message of the teachings on karma.
In Hinduism, karma refers to the sum of all one has done; determines individual's status in this and the next life.
