Ken Akamatsu (赤松 健 Akamatsu Ken; Tokyo Prefecture, July 5, 1968) is a Japanese mangaka, cartoonist and politician.

After failing an entrance test at Todai, the University of Tokyo, Akamatsu decided to devote himself completely to the world of manga.

In 1993 he began his career through Comiket and began practicing with short stories, such as Hitonatsu no Kids game in 1993, his first original story, and My Santa in 1997, under which he used the pseudonym "Awa Mizuno" (水野 亜和 Mizuno Awa).

Still in his college years, Akamatsu managed to win competitions held by Weekly Shōnen Magazine twice.

The turning point came in 1999, when he created Love Hina, a 14-tankōbon work that immediately became a hit title in Japan, selling more than 6 million copies nationwide and winning the Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2000. Akamatsu included many autobiographical elements in this series, such as his failure in Todai.

After finishing Love Hina in 2001, Ken Akamatsu in 2003 launched Negima: Magister Negi Magi, a manga that was well received by the public, allowing the work to become the flagship of some non-single-issue manga magazines such as the Italian magazine Yatta!. The series, which ended in March 2012, was the longest running of Akamatsu's entire career.

From August 2013 he began publishing a new long series, UQ Holder!, a sequel to Negima.

Political career

On December 16, 2021, Akamatsu announced a candidacy in the 2022 election for the national proportional representation block of the House of Councillors, the upper house of the Diet, under the Japanese LDP banner (Liberal Democratic Party, not to be confused with American/Western liberals and liberal parties) to protect artistic and creative freedom in entertainment industry and arts (citing specifically manga, anime and video games), freedom of expression and creators' rights in Japan, from politically correct/woke and neo-puritanical censorship, standards, regulations, and influences outside Japan (mainly from the West, liberal-marxist globalist, "anti-imperialist" imperialist and anti-West West) but also at domestic level, with other veteran Japanese artists intent on following suit.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] In fact, said such artists and creators do not want to conform or "submit" to Western-style woke and politically correct ideology, concerned that embracing such ideology would lead to a rapid and destructive degradation and decline of Japanese culture and society and freedom of expression in Japan (being themselves attacked, harassed and bullied online by hypocritical and virtue signalling woke and liberal/leftist anti-Japanese racists, neo-puritans and imperialists, all of them SJWs, feminists and misandrists, ageists, and bot/fake accounts, mainly on Twitter), taking as examples the racial segregation of voice actors in America since 2020 based on the skin-color of the characters to be voiced (with exceptions concerning non-white actors and voice actors voicing white characters),[19][20] the double standard regarding the desexualization and covering of female characters (including those designed and created by female artists) and not male characters,[21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29] the Western localization of Japanese video games and anime with altered phrases and dialogue to include SJW, feminist, gender and anti-capitalist propaganda,[30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54] and the attack on the Japanese sub-culture of the female fashion style gyaru (particularly ganguro) by comparing it to the blackface of US' minstrel shows originated in the Democrat South.[55][56][57][58][59][60]

On July 10, 2022, Ken Akamatsu was elected in a landside victory for the Japan Liberal Democratic Party, thus making him the very first mangaka in Japan to be elected for political office.[61][62][63]
