She was elected as a Democrat in 2018 and repudiated party affiliation in December 2022 upon the controversial certification of Arizona secretary of state Katie Hobbs as governor in what many, if not most, people believe to be a stolen election by the Arizona Democrats of Maricopa county. Sinema is up for reelection on 2024.
