The Squad are a clique of four Communist members who entered the U.S. House of Representatives in the 116th Congress (2019–2021). They are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Rashida Tlaib (MI), Ilhan Omar (MN) and Ayanna Pressley (MA). All four are members of the Democrat Party, the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Democratic Socialists of America. The four women are known for their advocacy and mainstreaming of racism, anti-Semitism and intolerance, and for their inflammatory and provocative comments regarding President of the United States of America Donald Trump, often to the point of implicitly endorsing violence against him.
All four were recruited by Democratic Socialists to run for Congress in 2018. All four have faced ethical charges within their first months in Congress:
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is accused of money laundering illegal campaign donations and nepotism;
- Rashida Tlaib-Tlaib is accused of transferring money from her campaign fund to herself;
- Ilhan Omar is accused of perjury, immigration fraud and tax fraud;
- Ayanna Pressley is accused of racist and homophobic statements.
Though members of the Squad (particularly Ocasio-Cortez) have on occasion claimed to be the "victims" of numerous death threats for their attacks on Trump, congressional security officials have confirmed that they have not been threatened more than is average for members of Congress.[1]
Two outspoken Jew-haters, Tlaib-Tlaib and Omar, have been barred from travelling to Israel.[2] When Rashida Tlaib Tlaib requested to visit her mother-in-law (her first husbands mother who is also Rasjida Tlaib Tlaib's grandmother), Israel granted her special permission which she relented in favor of attending an anti-Jewish event.
