Giovanni da Verrazano

Giovanni da Verrazano was born in Tuscany, Italy in 1480.[1] He was a Florentine explorer, sailing under the French flag.

He was the first of the European explorers to see New York and Narragansett bays.

The Italian Historical Society of America played a big part in having the bridge between Staten Island and Brooklyn named The Verrazano Narrrows Bridge. The society is also responsible for the placement of the Verrazzano Monument at Battery Park in New York.
