The National Renewal Alliance (in portuguese: Aliança Renovadora Nacional, ARENA) was a political party of neo-conservative orientation that existed during the two-party system of the Brazilian military regime. On 27 October 1965, President Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco created the Institutional Act Number 2, which extinguished the multiparty system and reduced the Brazilian political to two parties, one to give support to the current government (ARENA) and the other to house the opposition (Brazilian Democratic Movement, current PMDB).
