Length of screenplays

The rule of thumb is 1 page of a screenplay is equivalent to 1 minute of film, and a 90-minute film is a typical goal. So a spec script should be at least 90 pages, with some recommendations that it be 105-110 for a drama and a shorter 100 pages for a comedy. Anything longer than 120 pages would typically be too long.

Typically 1 page of a screenplay corresponds to about one minute of film time. People speak at about 125 to 150 words per minute, but in movies there are also periods of silence.
