Comment: Due to fascist totalitarian censorship during the Second World War, the German public had been shielded from news of the massive losses on the battlefield at the hands of the Russians and lulled into a dream like sleep by 24/7 broadcasts of music. This magnetic tape recording, first invented by the German firm of BASF to relieve the problem of German labor shortages at radio broadcasting facilities, was expropriated by the Red Army in 1945 and hidden in Kremlin Archives for the remaining Stalinist period and throughout the Khrushchev and Brezhnev eras. Leonid Brezhnev was known to have kept it for his own personal enjoyment. • Henley Heyn / Der Männer Sippe. Outstanding performance in this starter role (whatever happened to her?), especially her enthusiasm for the part. This was filmed in Los Angelas, I think, and the conductor and orchestra still have quite a bit to learn about providing balance for the vocalist. But Henley has no problem with it, and at no point is drowned out despite their lack of restraint.
• Waltraud Meier and Barenboim. Liebestod. (Outdoor performance, which is extremely difficult to engineer, somewhere in Catalonia, I think. I post it here to compensate in fairness to the performers for the poor video and audio quality of the above and to illustrate the teamwork of Meier, Barenboim, and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra made up of Palestinians and Jews founded by Barenboim).

• Richard Strauss, Alpine Symphony, Yevgeny Mravinsky, Leningrad Philharmonic 1962. (augmented brass you will not hear in other performances of this oft recorded piece).

• NYO-USA 2019 rehearses Strauss's Eine Alpensinfonie, 119 members—ages 16–19. Typically, it takes years and years for a person schooled in the classics of Mozart and Beethoven to pick up Late Romantic Era music, but these kids are on their way. Personal comment: My kids used to call this section "Dad's happy music". Here's Simon Bychkov navigating through the same section with the Berlin Philharmonic. You decide if the NYO-USA kids measure up to the same standards.

• Anton Bruckner, Symphony 8, Seagerstam, Sinfónica de Galicia. Read the 100+ comments on this performance of "the Mt. Everest of symphonies". In fact, Sinfónica de Galicia has used YouTube to promote itself, and you'll find it shows the commitment and discipline of the finest orchestras on the planet, I mean like Berlin, Vienna, or Chicago. Take any of your favorite pieces and listen to Sinfónica de Galicia's rendition. Interestingly, the ElementaryClassics youtube channel recently ranked Bruckner's 8th as No.7 in the 'Top 30 Epic Symphony Finales in All of Music History' among three of Bruckner's works and just ahead of Beethoven's 5th using the Celibidache interpretation, which is entirely unique in timing and counterpoint. Oddly, ElementaryClassics leave the The Immense Fugal Finale of Bruckner's Fifth Symphony off their list.
• Oboe Solo from Parsifal - Good Friday Spell, by Richard Wagner
• RhineGold - Birmingham Opera Company. In English. Mostly Black cast. All the female singers are good, but Wotan is "nutless" as they say in the vocal profession (here's a Wotan with an agile voice from the Copenhagen Ring. He could improve his acting skills somewhat, but we need more like him today). Alberich is pretty good (who doubles in the role of Froh), and could get even better with a little study and persistence. In Wagner, a singer can make a 40 or 50 year career out of mastering 1 or 2, maybe 3 roles. The fact the performance uses an English text and targets a Black and South Asian audience could be the beginning of a new era. As to the English text, while not always literal, still conveys the meaning at virtually all points.
• Arkady Leytush, Sibelius - Symphony #2, 1st movement, part 2, Sofia Philharmonic. Outstanding Sibelius and late Romantic interpreter, even with the trumpet flub at crescendo.
• J. Sibelius: Symphony No.2, second movement, Czecho-Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. I like this version cause they appear to use a tuba to compensate for bass violins.
• Sibelius, Symphonie Nr 4, Esa Pekka Salonen. Despite his globalist politics, Esa Pekka Salonen's interpretation is the cleanest and best version on Youtube beside the 1934 Schnéevoigt recording.
• Leytush, Franck Symphony in D-minor, National Orchestra of Porto, Portugal. More Leytush showing off his late Romantic interpretative skills.
• Review: Furtwängler's Bayreuth Beethoven Ninth--Its Most Metaphysical, Worst-Sounding Release Yet!! Absolute hilarity. I envy this guy's job.
• Ludwig Suthaus, Unsre Liebe. Probably the most difficult male passage in all of Wagner.
• Jeffrey Swann: "The Music of Parsifal: A Mixture, a Summation, or a Culmination?" One of the best 45 minute introductions to the work of Wagner.

• Valery Gergiev Domingo Parsifal avi. Placido Domingo as Parsifal. While I'm no big Domingo fan, the fact that at the washed-up age of 49 he decided to take up and promote Wagner, is admirable. His Italian accent makes it kinda funny, but the visuals are unparalleled on YouTube. The children's choir, which are all girls, appear on stage. Kundry's death, which you never see at Bayreuth these days, is even alluded to. (Side note: Putin was in St. Petersburg meeting with Valery Gergiev when the Zelensky regime attempted an assassination of Putin in Moscow with drones.)

• Jeffrey Swann "Wagner: A Voyage of Self-Discovery through Beethoven" Another excellent presentation by Jeffrey Swann.

• Holländer - Die Frist ist um - Wagner. Incredible butchery, but a valiant determined effort. She even gets lost halfway through. This is what happens when you have somebody schooled in the classics of Mozart and Beethoven approach Wagner, and why the importance of the words. This doesn't takeaway from a person's technical skill. Wagner demands from the interpreter to put something of themselves into the performance, and not just rote memorization. The spirit of the music is missing. She's still learning, and may not ever pick it up. She did much better with Nur eine waffe taugt. (Here's where she gets lost, "Yet one hope alone can save me", hence the importance of the words.)
• George London - Der Fliegende Holländer - Die Frist ist um - Bayreuth 1956. What the Dutchman's monologue is supposed to sound like in this near classic, definitive performance.

• George London "Abendlich strahlt der Sonne Auge" Das Rheingold. While we're on the subject of George London, I just have to include this legendary clip. I even remember when it was uploaded to YouTube, after much discussion.

• Richard Wagner: Der fliegende Holländer (Bayreuther Festspiele 2021), 720p. First ever performance by a female conductor, Oksana Lyniv, at the Bayreuth Festival. Although I have issues with the Third Act, I post it here cause the visual staging of the Overture is certainly worth review.

• Parsifal "Amfortas! die Wunde" Nikolai Schukoff. Again, a provincial theatre pirate recording. Lighting and transitions are phenomenal. Alternatively, it could be a pirate recording of a 35mm motion picture screen, but still appears provincial. Anyway, the transition sequence is as good as anything Wagner himself would have staged.
• Violeta Urmana as Kundry. I never grow tired of listening to Violeta Urmana. Maybe if she had accepted the offer by several political parties to be President of Lithuania in 2014, the planet wouldn't be facing nuclear destruction in 2022.
• Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major: II. Allegro Appassionato (two pianos). Pirate recording.
• Emanuel Ax - Brahms - Piano Concerto No 2 in B flat major, Op 83. Man, if only I could play like that.

• Richard Wagner: Parsifal (Jaap van Zweden). (The audio engineering for the mixed chorus and women's chorus is very well done, which is something you don't find in virtually all recordings. Due to the women's chorus being off stage in the original stage directions, the women's chorus often sounds muffled, but this concert recording is as clear as a bell. Time prompted).
• Leonie Rysanek: Lohengrin, "Entweihte Götter!" (Wagner). I have to include this clip in my favorites cause it's likely the clip that earned me a permanent ban from Rationalwiki. While the clip itself was groundbreaking at the time it was made and also is deserving of some criticism, I post it here to show how culturally obtuse those midgets at Rationawiki are.

• Du salbtest mir die Füße (Thou annointest my feet). Germany's leading heldentenor Jonas Kaufman and bass baritone Rene Pape combine in this short clip. The subtext to this section is Psalm 45 (Thy throne, oh God, is forever...). It was highly personal to Wagner, who believed himself to have had a Jewish father.
