Seattle's last Republican mayor was elected in 1964.
Seattle was the first of the liberal enclaves to be home to a "reefer vending machine", a vending machine where anyone can purchase marijuana, just like with soft drinks or candy. This will undoubtedly lead to more children, teens and reckless adults becoming addicted to the illegal substance.

With the contribution figures such as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren decried Amazon's “out-of-control corporate greed” and promoted a message that Amazon was “trying to tilt the Seattle City Council elections in their favor.” The progressive and socialist candidates framed the election as a choice between Amazon and the #Resistance. Seattle voters turned out for the progressive-socialist slate. All but one of the most progressive candidates won their districts—including a Democratic Socialists of America candidate and a Trotskyite incumbent Kshama Sawant, who demands the nationalization of Boeing and Amazon. Seattle's City Journal reported,

Misuse of homeless encampment funds
Mike Mathias, a formerly homeless person who Seattle Public Schools appointed to remove a dangerous homeless encampment was accused of using meth with the campers and using their housing vouchers as leverage to get them to comply with his demands.
After demands from parents, teachers and neighbors to clear the encampment following crime, drug dealing, drug use, prostitution and rodent infestation attributed to the campers, Seattle Public Schools contracted with Mathias of a new non-profit called Anything Helps. According to documents obtained by The Post Millennial, Mathias was being accused of using funds from the non-profit to purchase meth for personal use. The documents citing multiple witnesses who claimed Mathias spent "large cash amounts" to purchase drugs for campers and himself. Additionally, "Despite multiple requests to produce receipts, Mr. Mathias cannot account for all Anything Helps funds. And that funds were unaccounted for." The documents also state that Mathias was "…pressuring women at the camp to 'hit' or 'slam' him with meth."
Seattle School Board Chair Chandra Hampson and Director Zachary DeWolf demanded Mayor Jenny Durkan not allow the encampments to be removed from school grounds. Hampson and DeWolf published a joint statement condemning any potential removal of encampments from school property or anywhere else in the city, saying "We demand sweeps NEVER be performed on school grounds, adjacent or elsewhere in this City." Local Marxist activists enabled the campers by giving them supplies and chasing off volunteer groups. Neighbors told The Post Millennial that Antifa activists were spotted harassing outreach volunteers and have told the campers that the volunteer outreach groups, made up mostly of middle-aged residents, are dangerous.
A June 2021 email obtained by The Post Millennial showed that Seattle School Board introduced Matthias as a solution to removing the encampment after the suggestion came from one of the campers themselves. A simple background check would have revealed that that Mathias had an extensive criminal past as well as addiction and mental health challenges.

For nearly a month, starting in June 2020, the City of Seattle permitted anarchists and activists to seize six square blocks of the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, naming their new enclave the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ) and then the “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest” (CHOP). Law enforcement and fire fighters were precluded from entering the territory. The Seattle Police Department was ordered to abandon their precinct within the CHOP. Person-related crime in the CHOP increased 525% from the same period of time in the same area the year before, including by Mayor Jenny Durkan’s own count “two additional homicides, 6 additional robberies, and 16 additional aggravated assaults (to include 2 additional non-fatal shootings).” The CHOP was allowed to stand for nearly a month, during which time two teenagers were shot and killed in the zone. The Seattle City Council, Mayor Jenny Durkan, and Washington Governor Jay Inslee publicly rejected federal involvement in law enforcement activities within the city of Seattle.
The City of Seattle paid street artists to restore a Black Lives Matter mural near the former CHOP autonomous zone, in the process funding such messages as “ACAB,” “abolish ICE”, “abolish capitalism,”“F**k 12” and “100% Antifa,” a line used in the Manifesto written by Michael Reinoehl, the Portland activist who allegedly stalked and murdered a peaceful Patriot Prayer protester, Aaron Danielson, in August 2020 before later being killed by federal marshals who were attempting to arrest him.

After a prolonged siege the Seattle Police Department abandoned its East Precinct building. In a private message to the department, Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best passed the buck upstairs:

Community members were subjected to barricades set up by the protesters with some armed individuals running them as checkpoints in the neighborhood, a police spokesman said. “While they have a constitutionally protected right to bear arms there is no legal right for those arms to be used to intimidate community members.” Residents described a small number of people armed with rifles who have been seen serving as guards. Many businesses and residential buildings in the so called CHAZ hired private security staff. The entire area was lawless, and residents were left to fend for themselves. A social media posting from inside the illegally occupied territory read,
{{quotebox-float|"Due to the police not being able to respond for fear of reprisal and the shear amount of police resources required that makes it possible to have any presents in our area, residents needed to have an emergency plan that does not involve 911. Antifa hailed the murders as a victory. The mother of Horace Anderson filed a federal wrongful lawsuit filed against Jenny Durkan and Seattle's Emergency Services, Police Department, City Council and the State of Washington. The federal civil rights lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Lorenzo Anderson Estate, alleges that city officials were negligent and 'breached the duty of reasonable care' in failing to care for Anderson after he was shot four times within the CHOP area. The lawsuit says: 'Considering the more than adequate knowledge of the danger and violence associated with the CHOP area, Seattle leaders failed Lorenzo and the community and the the 'summer of love' hailed by Durkan became 'a summer of blood.' The suit claims that Seattle Police and Seattle Fire responders were only two blocks away from where Anderson lay bleeding after being shot but 'failed to assist because of botched communication between the two city agencies and lack of sufficient planning and preparation.' Seattle's Fire Department previously claimed it was too dangerous for them to enter CHOP without a police escort, with the lawsuit claiming that decision wasted time that could have saved Anderson's life. The suit continues: 'Lorenzo Horace Daeshawn WRONGFUL DEATH was the result of the negligence of many. Essentially the system let him down...'This WRONGFUL DEATH was both PREVENTABLE & PREDICTABLE.' The suit, which is seeking unspecified damages, says that Seattle EMT was less than a minute away as Anderson bled out and Seattle Police were less than five minutes away. 'Essentially Lorenzo (Anderson) was left to die' the claim says. Autopsy reports revealed that although Anderson suffered four gunshot wounds, to his knee, buttocks, hand and shoulder, and suggested he could have been saved had he been treated earlier. 'The people and institutions we entrust to protect public safety must not be rewarded for their incompetence, indifference and inaction leading to the wrongful death of citizens.' Attorney Evan Oshan, who is representing Sinclair, said in a statement. 'They need to be held accountable for their contemptible conduct that encouraged lawlessness to reign. Justice will reign and the negligent governmental actions will be held accountable.' .
