Kata'ib Hezbollah
Kata'ib Hezbollah (Arabic: كتائب حزب الله, lit. (Arabic: كتاب حزب الله, transliteration: Kata'ab Hizb Allah, literally: "Brigades of the Party of Allah") is an Iranian backed Iraqi Shiite terror militia formed in 2007. It was formed to fight the United States Army, which was in the country as part of the Iraq War. The militia operates under the direction of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and since 2014 has been affiliated with the Al-Hashd al-Shaabi ("Popular Mobilization") organization. Since the American withdrawal from Iraq in 2011, the militia has focused on activities against the Islamic State (ISIS) organization and ongoing security in Iraq, as well as involvement in the Syrian Civil War, alongside other pro-Iranian Shiite militias. Until 2020, the militia's leader was Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was also its founder. After his assassination along with Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, it is believed that Ahmed Mohsen Faraj al-Hamidawi is the militia's secretary-general.
