Michael Ray Turner (born January 11, 1960) is an American politician from Republican Party serving as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 10th congressional district since 2003. Turner's district, numbered as the 3rd district from 2003 to 2013, is based in Dayton and consists of Montgomery, Greene and Fayette Counties. He formerly served as he president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly from 2014 to 2016.[1]
Education
Turner graduated from Belmont High School in 1978 and received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the Ohio Northern University in 1982, a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University in 1985, an M.B.A. from the University of Dayton in 1992, and a D.L.S from Georgetown University in 2022.[2]
Political career
Turner first was elected as mayor of Dayton in 1993, and become mayor from January 4, 1994 to January 4, 2002. Then he run for congress for tenth district of Ohio and won after retiring of incumbent Democrat representative Tony Hall. In 2019 he support banning what he called "military arms" and only 93% approval rating from the National Rifle Association in prior years.[3] He defended Trump legislation against illegal immigration and voted for Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 1158) which effectively prohibits ICE from cooperating with Health and Human Services to detain or remove illegal alien sponsors of unaccompanied alien children (UACs).[4] He voted for $40 billion aid to Ukraine.
Turner was among 47 Republicans to codify Obergefell v. Hodges (gay marriage).
