The University of New Hampshire is a New Hampshire public university founded in 1866.[3] The school ranked #108 in US News's 2008 "National Universities: Top Schools" list.[4]
History
The school started as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts.[3] First the school was connected with Dartmouth College, however it moved to its Durham campus in 1893 after Benjamin Thompson bequeathed land and money to further the development of the college.[3] The university faced trouble after World War II, when, despite the fact that college enrollment in the country experienced an eight-fold growth since 1900, the University had grown 30-fold; the lack of space on campus was described as "painful".[3]
