Federalist No. 26, authored by Alexander Hamilton under the pen name Publius, is the twenty sixth of 85 essays. Titled "The Same Subject Continued: The Powers Necessary to the Common Defense Further Considered", Hamilton points to English history in his discussion of why a standing army is necessary to protect the United States from foreign invasion.
In particular, he references the Norman Conquest (See Battle of Hastings) and the tyranny that the English people faced until they were finally triumphant in 1688 at restoring Liberty.
It was published on December 22, 1787.
