Federalist No. 3, authored by John Jay under the pen name Publius, is the third of 85 essays. Titled "The Same Subject Continued: Concerning Dangers from Foreign Force and Influence", Jay continues his discussion of the advantages of a "strong united nation".
It was published on November 3, 1787.
Summary
In this essay, Jay argues that one united government would increase the safety of the whole union as opposed to thirteen or more individual states. As an example, he cites border states, where one individual state could cause all of the states "to direct violence, to excite war" against a foreign power such as Spain.
