The University of Colorado is a liberal public institution in the state of Colorado. The buffalo is the mascot of the University, which plays intercollegiate sports in the Big XII Conference.

It unsuccessfully tried to keep students with gun permits from carrying guns on campus. When that policy failed to survive legal review, it sought to segregate dorms based on which students had gun permits.[1]
