Texas Tech University is a Texas public university founded in 1923.[2] It was ranked a third tier school in US News's 2008 "National Universities: Top Schools" list.[3]
The former chancellor is Kent Hance, a former U.S. representative who unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nominations in 1986 and 1990. Hance, as a Democrat, also defeated George W. Bush in a race for Congress in 1978.
Athletics
Texas Tech has 7 men's and 8 women's sports teams.[1] The football program has won 9 bowl games (while losing 20 and tying 1).[4] The women's basketball program has won 1 national championship.[5]
