Texas Tech University is a Texas public university founded in 1923.[2] It was ranked a third tier school in US News's 2008 "National Universities: Top Schools" list.[3]
The former chancellor, Kent Hance, is a former U.S. representative who unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nominations in 1986 and 1990. Hance, as a Democrat, also defeated George W. Bush in a race for Congress in 1978.
Robert Duncan, the chancellor from 2014 to 2018, served previously in both houses of the state legislature. He announced on August 13, 2018 that he would retire from his position on August 31.
Athletics
Texas Tech has 7 men's and 8 women's sports teams.[1] The football program has won 9 bowl games (while losing 20 and tying 1).[4] The women's basketball program has won 1 national championship.[5]
