Friedrich Merz
Friedrich Merz is the former head of the German Blackrock office.[1] He is currently leader of Neoconservative party Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Before his party winning 2025 election he promised to close borders of country on illegal immigrants, but after winning election, he turned against his voters. He also promised to not form government with Alternative for Germany, preferring the establishment left party Social Democratic Party.[2]
Before being sworn into office former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev posted on social media:
| “ | Future Chancellor Merz accuses Russia of waging war in Europe and targeting Germany with arson, contract killings & disinformation. You're not in power yet but already lying like Goebbels. Nazi Germany attacked us like this from 1941-1945. We know how it ended. Bad start, Fritz! Hope it ends the same way for you.[3] | ” |
Economic program
Merz proposes to double the national debt from 62.4% of GDP to 125% with a 1.7 trillion (Trillion with a "T") euro increase to remilitarize for aggressive war against Russia. In 2024, Germany collected income taxes totaling slightly more than 1.8 Billion euros the federal level. This means that for nearly 10 years, 100% of total income taxes would have to be spent on the repayment of 1,700 Trillion euros.
The additional interest burden for the 1.7 Trillion euros will amount to 47.6 Billion euros per year if the current interest rate of the 10-year German government bond of 2.8% is used for the calculation. The cumulative profits of Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, German y's largest manufactures, amounted to 29.2 Billion euros in 2024. The German automotive giants would therefore not be able to pay the interest if they were to send all their profits to Berlin.
